Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack made him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
